The director of the Missouri National Education Association is speaking out about new quarantine guidance for schools issued by the State of Missouri this week.
Governor Mike Parson announced Thursday that the state is now advising schools that students who are direct contacts of COVID-19 positive individuals do not have to quarantine as long as all parties were wearing masks.
MO NEA president, Phil Murray, said in a statement that student safety should be the top priority of the state’s leaders. Murray said, “the dangerous choice to allow people exposed to COVID-19 to remain in a school building jeopardizes children, educators and families.”
He called allowing those with COVID-19 to remain in contact with students and teachers “indefensible.”
Murray is calling on local school boards and superintendents to reject the new guidance.
