Winter weather has caused MU to close campus several days this semester, leaving students and professors with less in-class discussion and learning. Reading day, a day at the end of the semester put aside to allow students to study for final exams, may be used to make up for missed classes.

MU spokesperson Christian Basi said the Faculty Council met to discuss how to make up for the lost class time and voted to allow instructors to utilize Reading Day.

“At their last meeting, they approved a resolution that supported the idea of faculty first trying to make up any missed material due to the winter weather that cancelled a couple of classes already this year, that they make up the material through alternative means such as online assignments,” Basi said.

The MU provost approved the measure. Basi said if the classes cannot be made up through alternative assignments, then professors will have the choice to hold classes on reading day. Faculty were asked to let students know in advance if they choose to have class on reading day, which is Friday, May 10.
