After more than 50 years of hostility and frozen ties with the United States, Cuba is preparing to open up to the world. In this edition of Global Journalist, we look at what it’s like reporting in the Communist country, and what the restoration of diplomatic relations means for Cuba's economy and people.

This week's guests:

  • Stephen Gibbs, a former reporter in Cuba for the BBC. He's now a correspondent in Brazil for China Central Television.
  • Jaime Suchlicki, Director of the Institute for Cuban and Cuban-American Studies, and a professor at the University of Miami.
  • Harold Cardenas Lema, a well-known Cuban blogger who runs the news blog El Toque and helped form the Young Cuba blogging collective.
