The American Health Care Association and National Center for Assisted Living are reporting the highest number of new COVID-19 cases in nursing homes since the spring—and just under half of the new cases are in the Midwest.

Listen to the audio for this story here.

The nationwide data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services showed over a million new cases of COVID-19 the week of November 15, with over 16,000 cases confirmed in nursing homes. That’s the highest number of new nursing home cases since late May, when the CMS started trackingthat information. The number of cases declined until mid-September but has been trending in the wrong direction since.

Over 2,000 COVID-related deaths in nursing homes were reported the week of November 15.
