Park Board Offers Options For Staying Cool In Springfield As Temperatures Soar

The Springfield-Greene County Park Board keeps at least one outdoor pool open late during heat advisories issued by the National Weather Service.  Westport Pool, 3100 W. Mt. Vernon, will stay open until 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 10.  Admission is $2.50 for youth and seniors and $3 for adults between 1 and 5:30 p.m.  Admission is $1 or free with a canned food item donation from 5:30 to 8. 

All three Springfield-Greene County Park Board Family Centers and the Jordan Valley Ice Park open their lobbies during heat advisories for use as free public cooling centers.  Hours are Monday-Friday, 5 a.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday, 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the family centers.

  • Chesterfield Family Center, 2511 W. Republic Rd.
  • Dan Kinney Family Center, 2701 S. Blackman Rd.
  • Doling Family Center, 301 E. Talmage
  • Jordan Valley Ice Park, 735 E. Trafficway, open 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily.
