The Columbia City Council unanimously approved a proposal Monday night to upgrade the water distribution infrastructure along Bryant and Switzler streets.

The plan will cost approximately $420,000 and will upgrade 1,700 feet of water distribution piping near Douglass Park – along Bryant Street from Ash Street to Switzler Street and along Switzler Street from Garth Avenue to Lasalle Place.   Tad Johnsen, director of city utilities, said the pipes need replacing because they were installed in the 1960s.    The project will take four to six months to complete and will take place during the summer construction season.    It will be funded by the Water Capital Improvement Plan.
