Students from the Riverview Gardens School District enrolled at other schools have been notified that their home district may receive an upgrade in its accreditation status, which could force them to change schools next year.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that if Riverview Gardens is upgraded, nearly 540 students who attend other schools under the state's transfer law could be forced to change schools again because they won't have the right to remain at their current schools.
The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education issued revised guidance Monday, emphasizing the possible upgrade to the north St. Louis county district. Riverview lost accreditation in 2007 after several years of academic issues. The school district's superintendent requested an accreditation status change in October from the Missouri Board of Education.
