Five Columbia public school buildings were on modified lockdown Monday afternoon in response to shots being fired on south outer Providence Road.
A district spokesperson said CPS locked the outside doors to Rock Bridge High School, the Career Center, Rock Bridge Elementary School, Gentry Middle School and the Center of Responsive Education. Police said the incident happened around 1:30 Monday afternoon and that suspects in two cars may have been shooting at each other. There were no reported injuries and no arrests yet. The district spokesperson said the incident did not happen on school grounds.
