Springfield City Council is planning to move the city to the next phase in the road to recovery on April 16.

Council voted Monday night to move from the red phase to the yellow phase.  It will remove COVID-19 occupancy restrictions and will allow buffet dining and special events under 500 people.

Greene County has hit two of the thresholds required to enter the yellow phase, including fewer than 50 people hospitalized in COVID-19 isolation and fewer than 40 new cases of COVID-19 per day based on a seven-day rolling average.  The third threshold to move to the next phase hasn’t been met:  25 percent of the population 16 and older fully vaccinated.  As of Monday, the vaccination rate was 19.25 percent.  But Katie Towns, acting director of the Springfield-Greene County Health Department, is hopeful the county will get much closer to that number with a mega vaccination clinic at MSU’s Hammons Student Center April 8 and 9.  She says 10,000 doses of the one-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine will be available at the event.  Eligibility for the vaccine opens to all Missourians on April 9.

Towns says a mobile COVID-19 vaccination unit, Greene County CARES, will take the vaccine to harder-to-reach populations as additional doses becomes available.
