A Springfield counselor is asking for donations to bring books by Black authors to classrooms across the state. Listen to the audio for this story here.
Keith Wilson decided to use his private therapy practice, New Leaf, to get more books by Black authors to Missouri schools. He said he hopes the books help students learn that different perspectives matter.Wilson said his fundraising program would give 30 copies of a title to each classroom that asks for it, as well as lesson plans tailored to that book. The authors include Toni Morrison, Langston Hughes and Maya Angelou as well as more contemporary Black authors.
Wilson has started a donation page on Fundly to cover the cost of the book sets.
