All 10 branches of the Springfield-Greene County Library District will be closed through Tuesday, March 31, the latest in a flurry of major cancelations and closures due to the outbreak of COVID-19.

According to a news release from the library district, the closures come at the recommendation of the Springfield-Greene County Health Department. Drive-up service will also not be available, but some online services will be offered through the library’s website: www.thelibrary.org.

The decision comes on the heels of an emergency City of Springfield ordinance prohibiting groups of 50 or more people, with a few exceptions, in an effort to prevent the spread of the novel 2019 coronavirus.

Before the branch closures were announced late Monday night, the library district had only cancelled its activities for the next few weeks.
