The History Museum on the Square is holding history lessons every Friday for elementary school students. Listen to the audio for this story here.
According to the museum, the program is meant to help parents with second through fifth grade students who are homeschooling or in pod learning due to COVID-19 precautions. The programs runs each Friday at 2 PM, with each week’s activity focused on a part of local history. Some topics this month include Greene County’s Native American history and the founding of North Springfield. Children will be able to see the rest of the museum after each lesson. Groups are required to pre-register before coming and social distancing will be enforced. Krista Adams, spokeswoman for the museum, said visitors are also expected to bring masks. The fee for each person to enter the gallery is $13, and $5 for museum members. Those interested in signing up can email Palmer Johnson at palmer@historymuseumonthesquare.org to reserve a time.
