State Begins to Issue Unemployment Benefits

The Department of Labor began issuing $600 in federal unemployment supplement payments on Monday.

The supplement payments will be a total of $66 million in benefits to 115,000 Missouri citizens. Gov. Mike Parson said the state is facing a historically high number of unemployment claims due to COVID-19. The Department of Labor is hiring temporary workers to manage the increase in work-load and get to processing claims as quickly as possible.

Parson said Missourians will begin to receive their payments soon.

"We're going to get to you," he said. "Right now, we've got work to do. And we've got to get better at it. And I think all of us know that. But we're going to continue to get better."
