Columbia Water and Light is replacing a water main in Columbia. The pipe will run from Texas Avenue to Creasy Springs Road.
Utility Services Specialist Connie Kacprowicz said this project is expected to affect about seventy people living in the area. Water will need to be boiled for a few days in order to consume it because of a possibility of chemicals entering the water.
“When we have to do a project like this, if the water pressure drops to a certain extent, we have to call a precautionary water boil advisory,” Kacprowicz said.
Kacprowicz said the original pipe is six inches and will be replaced with either an eight or twelve inch main. The bigger pipe will meet water demand for both residents and firefighters.
“We really pay attention to how much water is being used, but also how much water is being available in different parts of the city for firefighting purposes,” Kacprowicz said.
