Plenty of local and regional legal issues are in the news. Attorneys for St. Louis County are again arguing a judge should rule against a gay police sergeant in a discrimination lawsuit because Missouri law doesn’t include sexual orientation as a protected class. Missouri’s public defender system is under scrutiny again. The sunshine law is getting a workout with cases involving the University of Missouri, the availability of information about vehicle stops and data related to fatal traffic stops.

On Wednesday’s St. Louis on the Air, host Sarah Fenske talked with our Legal Roundtable panelists about these stories and more.

Also up for discussion was LA Rams owner Stan Kroenke. In addition to his team losing big on the football field, the Missouri Supreme Court ruled that he and other NFL owners must turn over phone records related to the Rams relocating from St. Louis in 2016.

Joining the discussion were three lawyers:

  • Susan McGraugh, professor, director of the Criminal Defense Clinic at St. Louis University School of Law
  • Bill Freivogel, professor for the School of Journalism at Southern Illinois University Carbondale
  • Mark Smith, associate vice chancellor and dean for Career Services at Washington University
