The Springfield Conservation Nature Center will celebrate its 30th anniversary with an open house Friday (10/5) from 5 to 9 p.m.  There will be cake and a timeline of the nature center’s last 30 years.   A live musical performance by musician and primitive skills specialist Bo Brown starts at 7 pm. No registration is required for the open house, but you must register for the concert by calling (417) 888-4237.  Learn more here

First Friday Art Walk is Friday night (10/5) from 6 to 10 at 27 downtown Springfield venues.  At one venue, Park Central Library, Nigerian artist Ibiyinka Alao, first prize recipient of the United Nations International Art Competition, will present "Visions of True Colors" about his work.  He’ll also display samples. Alao's paintings are a rare collection of an artist who has spent 21 years expressing a peaceful view of integration of cultures in our world today through the use of colors.  His talk starts at 7 p.m. 

Harvest Fest continues weekends through October 28 at Rutledge-Wilson Farm Park, 3825 W. Farm Rd. 146 in Springfield.  There’s a pumpkin patch, corn maze, haunted trail, a cow train, a carnival game, hayrides and more. 

The Gillioz Theatre, 325 Park Central East in Springfield, will host “An Evening with Tommy Emmanuel” Friday night (10/5) at 8. 

MSU will host the Writing and Thinking Conference: A Master Class with Dr. Sheridan Blau Friday and Saturday (10/5-10/6) at Glass Hall.  Dr. Blau’s writings are seminal in the field of English Education. 

The lecture, “Solving Baghdad-Erbil Disputes Constitutionally” will be held Friday (10/5) at 3 p.m. in Glass Hall Room 101.  It will be presented by Feisal al-Istrabadi, Iraq's former ambassador to the UN, and Brendan O'Leary, Irish political scientist and advisor to the Kurdistan Regional Government during the drafting process of the 2005 Iraqi Constitution. 

The Ozark Arts and Crafts Show is Friday through Sunday (10/5-10/7) at Finley River Park in Ozark.  The event offers a variety of arts and crafts, food and more. 

Ozark Fall Farm Fest is Friday and Saturday (10/5-10/6) from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday (10/7) from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Ozark Empire Fairgrounds.   

Springfield Little Theatre presents Disney’s “Newsies” through Sunday (10/7) at the Landers Theatre, 311 E. Walnut in Springfield.   

The Ride the Ozarks Rally will be held Friday and Saturday (10/5-10/6) at Minnie Harris Park in Harrison, Arkansas with a Poker Run on Saturday. 

Joplin Little Theatre presents the Cole Porter musical, “Anything Goes,” through Sunday (10/7) at 3009 W. 1st St. in Joplin. 

The Yellowhouse Community Arts Center, 209 W. Cleveland in West Plains, will present singer, songwriter and storyteller, Marideth Sisco, who is also host of “These Ozark Hills” on KSMU, and singer and guitarist, Linda Stoffel, this weekend.  The performance starts Saturday night (10/6) at 6.  They’ll be joined by multi-instrumentalist, David Wilson. 

The City of Nixa will host Party in the Park Saturday (10/6) from 1 to 4 p.m. at Rotary Park in Nixa to celebrate 50 years of owning its public utility.  The event will include bounce houses, giveaways, a safety town and more. 

Family Movie Night at the Library starts Friday night (10/5) at 6:30 at the Library Center with the showing of “Goosebumps,” rated PG, and spooky crafts. 

The Laclede County Library, 915 S. Jefferson in Lebanon, will host its Fall Book Sale Friday and Saturday (10/5-10/6) from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. 

The Grow Native! Native Plant Sale will be open to the public Saturday (10/6) from noon to 2 p.m. at the Springfield-Greene County Botanical Center, 2400 S. Scenic.  

Adults are invited to stop by the Republic Branch Library Saturday (10/6) from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. to make crafts celebrating the 200th anniversary of Mary Shelley’s “Frankenstein.”  Learn more here

The Ozarko Marching Band Festival will be held Saturday (10/6) at Plaster Stadium on the Missouri State University Campus.  Admission is $12 and $8 for students and senior citizens. 

Game Day: The Ultimate Tailgate will be held Saturday (10/6) at 6 p.m. at Springfield Brewing Company to benefit Lost and Found Grief Center. 

A Kickball Tournament to benefit Isabel’s House starts Saturday (10/6) at 10 a.m. at Springfield Rugby Club, 7294 W. Farm Rd. 144 in Springfield. 

Republic Pumpkin Daze will be held Saturday (10/6) from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Main St. in downtown Republic.  You’ll be able to view giant fruits and vegetables, browse booths and enjoy festival food. 

Me Too Springfield will host a rally on Park Central Square in Springfield Saturday (10/6) beginning at noon.  The rally will be a space dedicated to conversations on the impact and pervasiveness of sexual violence, and action to eliminate this issue for both men and women. 

The Midtown Carnegie Branch Library, the Community Partnership of the Ozarks and the Queen City Beard and Moustache Foundation will host a Fix-it Fair Saturday (10/6) from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.  Volunteer experts will help you repair household items and will share their expertise in fixing things.   

The Library Station will celebrate Godzilla Day Saturday (10/6) with a variety of activities for all ages. 

The Gillioz Theatre, 325 Park Central East in downtown Springfield, will present the “Henry Rollins: Travel Slideshow Tour” Saturday night (10/6) at 8. 

The Moxie Cinema, 305 S. Campbell in downtown Springfield, presents Moxie Mornings Saturday morning (10/6) at 10.  Kids two to six-years-old will watch an innovative short film and take part in hands-on activities during the free program.

The first annual Wizarding Run and Festival will be held Saturday (10/6) in downtown Joplin. 

A Trash Hike will be held Saturday morning (10/6) from 9:30 to noon in Joplin.  Participants will pick up trash from Redings Mill Bridge to the Joplin Falls by way of Wildcat Glades Park. 

The program, African American Trailblazers, will start at 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday (10/6-10/7) at George Washington Carver National Monument in Diamond, MO.  Learn about African Americans in history as well as modern day trailblazers. 

Drumming in the Park will be held Saturday night (10/6) from 6 to 10 at Basin Spring Park in Eureka Springs, Arkansas.  Take a drum or anything that makes noise and join a drumming circle. 

Bennett Spring Park staff will be in front of the park store from 2 to 3 p.m. Saturday (10/6) to share information about the American black bear and will have items on display.  Learn more here

Bennett Spring State Park will offer a one-mile guided hike on the Spring Trail Saturday (10/6) at 9 a.m. 

Animal Storytime will start Saturday morning (10/6) at 11 at the playground across from the park store at Bennett Spring State Park. 

Walking tours of Doling Park’s Giboney Cave will be offered Saturday (10/6) at 1 and 2 p.m., and a tunnel tour will start at 3.  There’s a fee.  Learn more here

Table Rock State Park will hold an informational meeting for the public Saturday night (10/6) at 6 at the park’s shelter house.  The meetings give staff the chance to let people know the current status and future plans for the park, and they offer visitors the opportunity to comment on the facilities. 

The program, Hiked it…Liked it! will start at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Saturday (10/6) at the Springfield Conservation Nature Center.  Take a naturalist-guided hike on the nature center’s trails. 

Learn the basics of nature photography during a program at the Springfield Conservation Nature Center Saturday morning (10/6) from 9 to noon.  To register, (417) 888-4237. 

The Sounds of Autumn Concert Series will feature Molly Healey Sunday afternoon (10/7) at 2 at the Springfield Botanical Gardens, 2400 S. Scenic in Springfield.  Take lawn chairs or blankets. 

Primitive Skills Day is Sunday (10/7) from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Springfield Conservation Nature Center.  Drop by anytime to see demonstrations in flint knapping, bow and arrow construction, making cordage out of fibers, beadwork and fire making.  You’ll also be able to try your hand at some of those skills. 

MSU’s Multicultural Ensemble will present a concert Sunday (10/7) in Ellis Recital Hall.  “Love Lifted Me” will start at 5:30 p.m.   The concert seeks to reassure the power of love for oneself and one another. 

Sunday Make & Play is Sunday (10/7) from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Schweitzer Brentwood Branch Library.  Drop in for a hands-on interactive experience with a maker, play and art focus.
