How do you pronounce Missouri? And why do you say it that way?

Legend has it former Gov. and Sen. Kit Bond took a poll during his gubernatorial races during the 1970s and '80s to see what Missourians preferred to say and how his pronunciation could help his strategy to win his election.

In our latest episode, Show Me The State digs into that legend while examining how politicians, like former Sen. Claire McCaskill and former Gov. Jay Nixon, use their pronunciation to signal certain values to their constituents.

Former U.S. Sen.Kit Bond paid a visit to Jefferson City Tuesday, hoping to persuade his fellow Republicans in the Missouri House and Senate to expand Medicaid coverage to more people.

A new bipartisan group of Missouri leaders is trying to put pressure on Congress to address the national debt – and says tens of thousands of Missouri jobs are at stake.  The Missouri “Fix the Debt” campaign held its first event in Jefferson City Monday. The group is urging action before the so-called fiscal cliff takes effect.

Thursday the University of Missouri hosted a lecture series, sponsored by former US senator, Kit Bond. The lectures covered topics about alternative forms of energy, and the impact current energy resources have on the economy and environment.

Former Republican Missouri Senator Kit Bond will lead a delegation of St. Louis-area business leaders to China later this year.

Bond's consulting firm that works on international trade will accompany regional and statewide businesses and academic institutions to China in December.
