The Salvation Army

Today Paul Pepper visits with CHRIS MILLER about Healthy Bottoms Diaper Bank, an organization that collects disposable diapers, and then distributes them to families in need through partner agencies like Voluntary Action Center. Chris says that in 2017, 50,000 diapers were donated and distributed, and the goal in 2018 is twice that number. Watch for details on how to you can get involved! At [4:50] MAJOR JACK HOLLOWAY tells us about the outcome of the 2017 Red Kettle Campaign (it's good news!), and about the importance of the Salvation Army Thrift Store. Last year, the store generated $170,000 in profit; that money went right back into programs and services like Harbor House. None of it would be possible without volunteer assistance, and they're always looking for more help! February 15, 2018

Today Paul Pepper visits with JAY PORTER, a graduate student studying the effects of exercise on blood sugar levels in those with diabetes. If you're age 25-65 and you'd like to be a part of this study, and keep in mind you don't have to be suffering from diabetes to be involved, watch for details! At [4:22] Majors Jack and Nancy Holloway give us an update on this season's Red Kettle Campaign. The goal is $365,000, and according to Nancy, "it's going very well." But with another 50% to go, they're still looking for donations. December 20, 2017

Today Paul Pepper visits with KAY GLASS about the 2017 Calvary Episcopal Church Bazaar, happening tomorrow in Columbia. Arrive early for the famous church mice or you'll miss out! Proceeds benefit several organizations in our community -- watch for details! At [3:44] MAJOR JACK HOLLOWAY reminds us about all the good the Salvation Army does throughout the year, and how most of the money they raise is done so during the holiday season! Find out where the money goes and about the many different ways in which you can donate. December 1, 2017

Today Paul Pepper visits with The Salvation Army's MAJOR NANCY HOLLOWAY, Area Coordinator, and MAJOR JACK HOLLOWAY, Area Business Coordinator, about the importance of giving to this organization, especially during the holiday season. Nancy tells us that "we actually receive about a quarter of our income during the month of December." So next time you see a red kettle, think of the fact that your donation stays right here to help those less-fortunate in our community! December 15, 2016

Today Paul Pepper visits with JOHN MURRAY, Director of the University Concert Series, about all the holiday-themed entertainment that's set to hit the stage as early as November 28th! John says, "we don't start before Thanksgiving, but boy, we start right after." And rightly so with a jam-packed schedule like this that's sure to delight the whole family! Tickets on sale now. At [3:28] we meet NANCY HOLLOWAY, one of the new majors for the local Salvation Army. Nancy talks about the importance of Columbia's Harbor House, a homeless shelter that benefits from your donation during the annual holiday "giving" season. Watch! November 17, 2016
