Board Seeks to Snuff Sale of Flavored Vaping Products

There should be an immediate moratorium on the sale of flavored vaping projects in Columbia until the Columbia/Boone County Board of Health can draft legislation that permanently regulates the products, according to a board report to the Columbia City Council.

The City Council will hear the report at its Monday meeting. The board is asking for the immediate moratorium and permission to draft the permanent legislation.

Health officials in eastern Missouri have added a seventh person to the list of Missourians diagnosed with lung illnesses related to vaping.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that the Jefferson County Health Department says a male between the ages of 15 and 24 was diagnosed Sept. 12 with "vaping associated pulmonary injury."

Health officials in the county, which is located south of St. Louis, say there have been 22 reports of vaping-related illness in Missouri, with seven cases confirmed as of Sept. 20.

A man in his mid-40s who died at a St. Louis hospital succumbed to a vaping-related illness, Missouri health officials announced Thursday.

The Missouri man is the state's first death related to an outbreak of lung disease linked to e-cigarettes or other vaping-related devices, the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services said. Eight vaping-related deaths have been recorded in the U.S.
