A virus that kills piglets is ripping through farms around the country. While it doesn’t affect humans, Midwest pork producers are doing everything they can to fight it off. But as Harvest Public Media’s Amy Mayer reports, the disease is proving resilient.
Also, every winter, hundreds of trumpeter swans migrate from their breeding grounds in Wisconsin to the Riverlands Migratory Bird Sanctuary, just across the Mississippi River from Alton, Illinois. This year there are about 900 of them ― a record for the area.
On a recent cold, blustery morning, St. Louis Public Radio and the Beacon’s Véronique LaCapra drove up to see ― and hear ― the swans, and produced an audio postcard.
