Dan and Connie Burkhardt were guests of Darren Hellwege on a recent episode of Thinking Out Loud. The Burkhardt's discussed their recent book, Growing Up with the River in advance of their September 19 lecture on the MU campus.

Targeted towards a younger audience, the book tells the history of the authors' families through descriptions of a string of Missouri River towns. The book “…aims to help educate and groom the next generation of conservationists in Missouri,” said Connie Burkhardt. She added that the book can be a great primer for the curious reader wanting to know more about the history and geography of the Missouri River region. The book takes readers on a tour of Missouri River towns that range from rural hamlets, like the authors' hometown Marthasville to booming Chesterfield. side of the Show-Me State. Growing Up with the River addresses key moments in Missouri’s past and illuminates how the Missouri River played a role following those major occurrences.

The 119-page coffee table book was recently published by non-profit organizations, the Katy Land Trust and Magnificent Missouri.

Authors Dan and Connie Burkhardt and book illustrator Bryan Haynes will give the 2017 Jacquelyn Kay Jones Lecture starting at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September in MU's Memorial Union Stotler Lounge.
