A Thursday morning fire in Boonville has destroyed two businesses operated by a program that helps people with disabilities.

Unlimited Opportunities employed disabled adults at its recycling center and second-hand clothing shop. No one was hurt in the fire. Boonville Fire Chief Tim Carmichael says the fire spread quickly.

“The whole building just had a heavy combustible load on it between the paper recycling and the clothes recycling," Carmichael says. "There was plenty of fuel for the fire.”

Unlimited Opportunities executive director Jennifer Waibel says the community is lending support. Area churches and the school district have offered space for the program to use. Waibel says that despite the fire, their service work will not come to a stop.
