Three Columbia schools were on modified lockdown for about an hour Thursday afternoon.
A Columbia Public Schools spokesperson says Fairview and Paxton Keeley Elementary Schools and Smithton Middle School took the measure just after 1:30pm Thursday, following a robbery at the Academic Employees Credit Union near the intersection of Fairview and Ash just northwest of downtown. Columbia Police say no arrest has been made, and there were no injuries.
In a press release, the Columbia Police Department gave these details about the robbery:
On 06/14/12 at approximately 1:07 this afternoon a black male entered the credit union and handed the teller a note demanding money. The note implied he had a gun, but none was seen. There were no customers in the building and no one was injured.
The suspect put the money in a bag and left on foot heading north into the wooded area across from the credit union.
The suspect is described as a medium skinned black male between 6’2” and 6’4” in his mid to late 20s. He was last seen wearing a dark long sleeve shirt, dark pants and a red ball cap.
We are asking the public if they have any information on the suspect to please contact the Columbia Police Department or call Crimestoppers at 875-TIPS (875-8477) to stay anonymous.
