Procession planned for Rolla soldier

A 37-year-old soldier killed by a gunman in the recent shooting at Fort Hood, Texas, will be honored with a procession before being laid to rest.

Army Sgt. Timothy Owens was one of three soldiers killed by a gunman at the 1st Medical Brigade area at Fort Hood on April 2. The accused gunman, Spc. Ivan Antonio Lopez, also wounded 16 soldiers before committing suicide.

The Rolla Daily News reports that Owens' remains are to be flown into St. Louis Lambert International Airport Friday. The body will be escorted by the Rolla Patriot Guard Riders along Interstate 44 to the funeral home in Dixon, Mo.

Owens is originally from Effingham, Ill., and attended Rolla High School in the 1990s.

The funeral is scheduled for Saturday in Rolla.
