The Missouri State Highway Patrol says a 19-year-old man drowned in a northwest Missouri river.

The patrol says the body of John Schneider of Skidmore was recovered from the Nodaway River near Skidmore Wednesday night. The Nodaway County sheriff's office had received a call about three hours earlier reporting that a swimmer had disappeared under the water and not resurfaced.

Nodaway County Sheriff Darren White says Schneider was swimming with his cousin when he drowned.
