The makeshift memorial that has marked the site of where Michael Brown was fatally shot by a police officer in August now has been cleared out, and a permanent plaque will be placed nearby.
Volunteers on Wednesday cleared out the temporary shrine that'd been in the middle of the street since Brown was killed Aug. 9 by white Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson. Wednesday would have been Brown's 19th birthday.
Michael Brown's father said at a news conference the plaque would be put in the street, but Ferguson Mayor James Knowles III said later Wednesday that it would go near a sidewalk on private property in the general area.
Brown acknowledged the makeshift memorial had become a hazard.
Brown's death touched off protests and a national "Black Lives Matter" movement.
