Missouri State says 5 Rapes Reported this Semester

Springfield police are investigating the fifth rape reported this semester on the Missouri State University campus.

The Springfield News-Leader reports a female student reported the assault took place Oct. 21 inside a male student's room at a residence hall.

Police spokeswoman Lisa Cox says alcohol did not appear to be involved and the two people had a prior relationship.

The four other alleged rapes occurred between Aug. 26 and Oct. 9.

The investigation of one case has been suspended because of a lack of cooperation. The victim in another case has declined to prosecute, although that case is still open. The other cases are being actively investigated.
