Salary and benefit increases will raise expenses for Columbia Public Schools in the coming year, but the district still plans to sock away money to help fund a new school.
The district expects its revenue will grow from $219.2 million in the fiscal year ending June 30 to $225.3 million in the 2018-2019 fiscal year. Expenses will go from $210.2 million this year to $221.8 million next year. The district expects to capture nearly $9 million in excess revenue this year that will go toward new schools. Next year, the district projects banking $3.5 million.
“The district has made a commitment, with the support of the community, to improve employee salaries to help recruit and retain high-quality employees,” said Columbia Public School spokesperson Michelle Baumstark.
