The Missouri Senate has given preliminary approval to a bill that would study the cost of making insurance companies provide coverage for eating disorders.
The bill would require legislative staff to perform an actuarial analysis by the end of the year to evaluate the cost to health carriers for mandatory coverage. The analysis would look at the cost of residential treatment care for people with eating disorders and access to psychiatric treatment.
The measure is sponsored by Republican Sen. David Pearce, of Warrensburg. It needs one more vote before moving to the House.
