Missouri’s Roy Blunt was among the Republican Senators signing a letter Wednesday asking President Barack Obama to permanently delay the implementation of the Affordable Care Act.

Last week, the Obama Administration announced that a provision of the new law – the so-called employee mandate – would be delayed by one year. Blunt joined other GOP leaders at a press conference in Washington Wednesday and claimed that the administration’s decision was a political one aimed at keeping voters in the 2014 mid-term elections in the dark about the health care law.

“Now every single election we say we really can’t put this information out there or we really can’t fulfill this part of the legal requirement until sometime after the people have voted again," Blunt said. "They obviously don’t think people are going to like this when they see it.”

A spokesperson for the White House called the Republican letter part of a  “nihilistic effort” to kill the Affordable Care Act altogether.
