A new law banning smoking in public places in Sedalia has survived an attempt to revise it or repeal it altogether.
The Sedalia Democrat reports the City Council voted 4-4 during a special weekend session to leave the ordinance intact.
The ordinance took effect Sept. 13 in the western Missouri city that hosts the State Fair.
It bans smoking in enclosed workplaces, bars, common areas of apartment buildings, bingo and convention facilities and numerous other places. Outdoor smoking is banned in all city parks and playgrounds.
Suggested revisions included allowing smoking in bars and lifting an exemption for private clubs, where smoking is banned only when they're being used for public events. The City Council rejected those proposals.
