McCaskill contributions to Democrats reach $390K

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) — The tally keeps rising on U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill's contributions to the Missouri Democratic State Committee.

Online campaign finance records show McCaskill gave $50,000 to the party last Friday — two days after giving an identically sized check.

McCaskill now has contributed $390,000 to the Democratic Party this year. The donations are intended to help Democrats pick up seats in the Missouri Legislature, where Republicans hold a commanding two-thirds majority in both chambers.

The two-thirds mark is important, because that is the threshold necessary for overriding vetoes by Democratic Gov. Jay Nixon.

The elections are Nov. 4.
