Boone County Voters Turn Out in High Numbers

In Boone County this Election Day, voter turnout is higher than expected.

Boone County Clerk Taylor Burks says today’s high levels of participation for the midterm elections can be compared to the presidential election of 2016.

“We’ve not had a midterm election, at least in the last 30 years, where we’ve had a turnout higher than 66 percent and we are seeing a target of 80 percent right now,” said Burks.

Burks said all of the county’s 71 polling locations have remained busy throughout the day.

Voter Emily Gustafson said it’s important to vote because voting is the primary way to participate in the democracy.

“We choose our elected representatives, and we are able to vote directly on amendments and propositions and have the say in our government, and I think that’s really important,” said Gustafson.

Burks said to be sure to check your polling station before heading to the polls.

Polls in Boone County close at 7 p.m. tonight.
