Suspect Arrested in 'Suspicious' Monday Night House Fire

A fire damaged about $50,000 worth of property to the house at 308 Mohawk Ave. on Monday night, according to a Columbia Fire Department news release.

Detectives arrested 45-year-old Tammy Yvette Nevels of Columbia on Tuesday in connection to the fire. 

Seven units were dispatched to the home at 10:20 p.m on Monday, according to the news release. The units had the fire under control within 10 minutes of arrival, and no one was hurt.

 
 
The fire marshal's office performed an investigation at the scene and determined the fire was "suspicious in nature," according to the news release.
