Missouri State University has confirmed that 13 of the 141 new cases of COVID-19 from its first full week of the fall semester were in fraternity and sorority houses—that’s just over nine percent of the new cases. Listen to the audio for this story here.
David Hall, safety director at MSU, told KSMU that fraternities and sororities are not part of the university’s jurisdiction. Hall said the organizations typically have a housing corporation or a national chapter responsible for managing the COVID-19 cases in each sorority or fraternity.KSMU tried to reach about a dozen sororities and fraternities for interviews, but we were unable to connect with anyone willing to do an interview.
Hall also said while MSU was initially able to offer isolation and quarantine housing to students who live both on and off-campus, it is now reserving that space exclusively for students who live on-campus.
Hall said if the university gets extra capacity, it will consider expanding the quarantine and isolation housing to all students.
