But Merrigan won’t move into her new position right away. She’ll spend the next 17 months learning from outgoing superintendent Todd White.

“I’ll get to really understand the legislative process,” Merrigan said. “I get to spend time analyzing and working on the budget – areas I haven’t had as much opportunity to work with.”

Merrigan is currently in charge of curriculum, administration, special education and career education. She says the relationships she’s built during 20 years with the district will help her in her new role.

“I often joke that I bleed Blue Valley blue,” Merrigan said. “This place has felt like home for me since I walked in the door in April of 1999. I’m just excited to be able to continue to serve this district.”

Merrigan said she’s committed to the seamless transition from White’s administration to her own.

“You don’t want to hit pause, ever. You only have one kindergarten year. We want that to be the best kindergarten year for that student ever. We really want to be on all cylinders and keep going,” Merrigan said.

Her contract begins July 1, 2020.
