A backlog of cases in the Greene County courts could have played a part in the creation of the Circuit Judge position for the 31st Judicial Circuit. Applications are due August 30th and public interviews are September 13th.

Applications for the office of Judge of the 31st Judicial Circuit are being accepted by the Circuit’s Judicial Commission in Greene County.

The Missouri Constitution says that a Circuit Judge must be at least 30 years old, have a license to practice law in Missouri, and must have been a U.S. citizen for at least 10 years. The candidate must have been a qualified voter for three years and they also must have lived in the 31st Judicial Circuit for at least one year.

Nominations for Circuit Judge should be submitted to Craig Street, Clerk of the Court. Street told KSMU that a backlog of cases in the Greene County courts could have played a part in the creation of the position.

“The actual creation of the position was by the legislature, and so you know, I can’t really speak to what their intentions were but I expect that played a role in it,” Craig Street said.

The Commission plans to conduct public interviews on September 13th at 9 a.m. After that, a panel of three nominees will be chosen and Governor Mike Parson has 60 days to appoint one of the nominees.

Applications are due August 30th and can be found online at courts.mo.gov.
