A civil emergency for Springfield is now in effect until December 12. Springfield mayor, Ken McClure, issued the fourth renewal of the sixth proclamation of civil emergency for the city on Tuesday. It goes into effect on November 13.
The issuance is a housekeeping item that allows the city to have flexibility in the coming weeks, according to a news release from city officials.
McClure said he issued the renewal because “there continues to reasonably appear to exist a state of civil emergency.” But he said, because Springfield City Council passed an ordinance setting out regulations to protect public health and safety during the pandemic, he won’t exercise additional powers granted to him under city code at this time.
