MDC To Test Deer For CWD As Fall Firearms Hunting Season Gets Underway

Saturday, November 16, is the opening day of the fall firearms deer season in Missouri. The Missouri Department of Conservation will take samples of tissue from deer to check for Chronic Wasting Disease at various locations both Saturday and Sunday.

CWD sampling is mandatory in 29 counties in the CWD Management Zone. In southern Missouri, those include Barry, Cedar, Christian, Howell, Ozark, Polk, Stone and Taney Counties. Sampling stations will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Hunters can take their deer for voluntary CWD sampling in counties not included in the management zone.

The fall firearms deer season goes through November 26.
