Closures due to the coronavirus will now include park playgrounds and play equipment in Greene County.

The Springfield-Greene County Park Board is closing those and any high-density gathering areas until further notice to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Director of Parks Bob Belote said, while it’s tough news for families with children, it’s “absolutely critical for the health and safety of our community.”  He said they saw a high volume at park playgrounds over the weekend, and that “the virus can live on plastic and metal surfaces for hours.”  Keeping the playground open, according to Belote, poses too much of a health risk for visitors.

Parks and trails remain open.
