A Republican donor and operative have different recollections about whether the Missouri GOP chairman made negative religious remarks about a state auditor who killed himself.
Republican donor David Humphreys released a signed affidavit Thursday saying that John Hancock told him on November 24th that Missouri Auditor Tom Schweich was Jewish. Humphreys said it seemed that Hancock was implying that was a negative attribute as Schweich was running for governor.
But Republican operative Paul Mouton says he also was at that meeting and didn't hear Hancock say anything about Schweich being Jewish. Hancock denies making such comments at the meeting.
Schweich fatally shot himself February 26th, just minutes after telling The Associated Press he wanted to go public with allegations that Hancock was making anti-Semitic remarks about him. Schweich was Christian.
