The Springfield-Branson National Airport will be adding more parking within the next year.

The Springfield-Branson National Airport is seeing more travelers than ever, and parking can be a bit of a challenge–especially for those who like to cut it close when it comes to making their flights. But construction is underway on more than 700 additional parking spots.

Listen to the report hereThese 700 parking spots are in addition to the 300 spots added a few years ago.

Airport spokesman Kent Boyd said the most important thing for people to remember is to get to the airport at least two hours early.

“Folks are used to getting to the airport at the last minute, because they’ve been able to do that for years. But as more and more people are using the airport, the crowds are getting bigger and with the parking shortage it’s taking more time to find a parking spot,” Boyd said.

Parking lots at the airport are often full. Airport officials say by next spring, there will be more than 2,700 spots to help alleviate that problem.

This fall, the airport will introduce paid valet parking.  Next year, it plans to add charging stations for electric vehicles—and if budget allows, a covered sidewalk.
