An event Wednesday, July 11, in Springfield will offer a variety of services for military veterans all in one place. More than 30 agencies will be available at the Post Independence Day Veterans Information Stand Down at the Missouri Job Center on E. Sunshine.
Sandra Bonnette, disabled veteran outreach program workforce specialist for the City of Springfield, says help will be available in several areas—from employment, to transitioning out of military service to help with legal issues. Spouses of veterans are invited, too.
Colleges will offer help for veterans who would like to pursue education, and help will be available for VA claims. Bonnette says it will be a one-stop shop.
"People always have questions, 'yeah, I need to do that' or you get out of the military and go, 'yeah, I need to sign up for that,'" she said. "Well, this is your prime opportunity to hit every organization in one stop as far as VA, as far as finding out about educational opportunities, as far as finding out about brother and sisterhood organizations."
Other services that will be offered Wednesday include help with housing and healthcare, information about the Veteran’s Treatment Court and advice for veterans thinking about starting their own business.
The Veterans Information Stand Down will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 2900 E. Sunshine.
