St. Louis Police Officer Accused of Stealing Suspect's Phone

A St. Louis police officer has been charged with theft after officials say he stole an arrestee's cellphone.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that court records show 31-year-old Thomas Harger was charged Friday with misdemeanor theft.

Court records say he was caught on video taking a suspect's phone from a booking counter on Jan. 21 and hiding it under paperwork. The documents say he could be seen on the video in other parts of the station with the stolen phone.

The woman who owned the phone was being held on an outstanding traffic warrant. The investigation was launched when she was released and discovered her phone missing. The phone had been listed on an arrest inventory sheet and is still missing.

Harger's lawyer declined to comment to the newspaper.
