For most of this year, legislators have been concerned that Missouri would not generate enough tax revenue to meet its budget demands.

Even in early April, revenue totals were down 4.26 percent compared with the year before, a total shortfall of about $290 million.

This week, updated revenue figures have legislators breathing easier, although it remains unclear whether the state will hit its growth projection.

A new report from the Department of Revenue shows Missouri’s revenue totals up 0.06 percent — $4.1 million — from the same time last year. Although the deadline to file taxes was April 15, Budget Director Dan Haug said those revenue totals will not be finalized until early May.
