The images of a convenience store set ablaze and heavily armed officers introduced many people to Ferguson, Missouri, a St. Louis suburb that would become synonymous with the national debate over police treatment of minorities.

Charges have been dropped against six activists who were arrested during a protest in Ferguson.

The case was dropped just as their trial was about to begin. It was expected to include allegations of police brutality, claims of missing evidence and discussions about the shortcomings of body cameras.

The charges had included property damage, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and third-degree assault. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that Ferguson prosecutor Stephanie Karr dismissed the charges Thursday without explanation.

FERGUSON, Mo. (AP) — Demonstrators have disrupted business at a large suburban St. Louis shopping mall to protest a grand jury's decision not to indict the police officer who fatally shot Michael Brown in nearby Ferguson.

At least 200 protesters gathered on one of the busiest shopping days of the year Friday at the Galleria mall in Richmond Heights, about 10 miles south of Ferguson.
