Community Health Assessment Reveals Significant Racial Disparities

Racial disparities between white and black residents persist in Boone County, according to the 2018 Community Health Assessment report released last week. The disparities are sharpest in income, education, overall health and death rates.

Between 2012 and 2016, black Boone County residents made 56 cents for every dollar white residents made — a mere two-cent increase from income levels measured between 2007 and 2011 in the last health assessment report.

The reality of the wage gap is reinforced by the differences in median income among residents. White Boone County residents had a median income of $53,477 while black residents had a median income of $29,902, according to the report.
