Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery to Expand

St. Louis County has agreed to sell parkland so the Jefferson County Barracks National Cemetery can expand.

KSDK-TV reports that the county council voted Tuesday to sell more than 33 acres (13 hectares) of land in Sylvan Springs Park to the U.S. Department of Veterans of Affairs.

The cemetery had been expected to run out of burial plots over the next decade. The VA would lease the lower half of the park back to the county for about a decade until the space is needed for new burials.

The county plans to reinvest money from the land sale into the rest of the park.
