Temperatures plummeted in Missouri after freezing rain blanketed roads with ice, causing scores of accidents including some fatalities. At least three deaths in Missouri were blamed on icy roads Friday after a treacherous mix of snow and freezing rain blasted much of the state.
Several more accidents were reported Saturday as more icy rain and snow hit the state. In Columbia, the public works street division said as of Sunday night it had treated and plowed all first and second priority streets. The city said its crew moved on from there to go back to some of the sub ward streets that were treated first, before new snow fell Saturday and Sunday.
Additional snow over the weekend and frigid temperatures will still cause some disruption today with multiple school closures.
Columbia Public Schools, Fulton Public Schools, and many other districts including those in Ashland, Centralia, Fayette, Moberly, Hallsville and many other towns north of Columbia. Jefferson City public schools are in session today, with busses on snow routes in Callaway County.
