Rabbi Barbara Block has been at Temple Israel in Rogersville since 2014.

The Rabbi at the Jewish synagogue for the Springfield area, Temple Israel, is Barbara Block.  She spoke with KSMU's Jennifer Moore about the synagogue’s response to the mass shooting in Pittsburgh, in which a gunman killed 11 Jewish congregants in their place of worship Saturday.

Block said the synagogue already has security, and is reviewing that in light of the recent attack.  She also said Temple Israel has received many calls of support from churches and individuals in and around Springfield--and that everyone has a role to play in combatting hatred.

She said one way to combat anti-Semitism is to learn about Judaism.  Temple Israel services are open to the public, she said, and the synagogue is is hosting two special events:

*  Sunday, November 4 at 3:00:  Temple Israel will celebrate its 125 anniversary. A special service will remember the founders, followed by refreshments.

* Sunday, November 11 from 10:00-3:00:  Temple Israel hosts "Art Fest," which includes local art and food for sale, and free tours of the synagogue with Rabbi Block.
